here's a simple 5-step tutorial for making a pixel rose! i start with a rough doodle, then i edit pixel by pixel. also, i only used three colors to keep this tutorial simple.
STEP I. draw the inner rose bud.
STEP II. draw the back petals. for this angle, keep them pretty small.
STEP III. draw the front petals in a sort of v-shaped formation, hugging the inner rose bud.
STEP IV. clean up the pixels for smoother edges (no jagged steps) and to get the shape you want. i made this rose symmetrical on the bottom, then added a line on the rose bud to define one of its petals.
STEP V. add tiny petal edges to the inner rose bud. it's basically just a border around the top part, then a little fancier in the front.
